The Dell Difference

The Dell Difference Overview

Agencies charged with health and human services rely on interoperability to help individuals and their families receive the appropriate level of care and support they need. By improving information sharing between agencies and departments, you can raise the level of patient care and you can focus your efforts on maintaining the health and well-being of your community.

State and local agencies, no matter what their missions are, can begin increasing their interoperable capabilities today by assessing and upgrading their IT systems and replacing outdated or inadequate equipment. Dell's line of affordable, state-of-the-art hardware and backup systems can help your agency address the demands of interoperability.

For a national interoperability architecture to be created and effectively implemented, existing intercommunication limitations must first be overcome. To respond effectively in a crisis, your agency needs instantaneous and uninterrupted communication with emergency first responders, law enforcement agencies, public utilities and other key players; however, many of these organizations presently have limited or nonexistent interoperability systems.

The Department of Homeland Security reports that interoperability faces various technical and financial challenges as well as inadequate planning and lack of awareness of the real importance of interoperability. According to a March 2005 presentation by David Boyd, director of SAFECOM, the key issues hampering public safety wireless communications are:

  1. Incompatible and aging communications equipment
  2. Limited and fragmented budget cycles and funding
  3. Limited and fragmented planning and coordination
  4. Limited and fragmented radio spectrum
  5. Limited equipment standards
