The National Science Foundation (NSF) was given $400 million for major research and facilities construction, which will include the following:
- The Advanced Technology Solar Telescope, the nation’s first new large solar telescope in nearly 30 years
- The Alaska Region Research Vessel, NSF’s first new research vessel since the early 1980s
- The Ocean Observatories Initiative, an integrated observatory network of deep-sea buoys, cables and sensors to be deployed in critical parts of the U.S. and global coastal waters
