National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Some of the $1.1 billion Congress designated for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be used to increase the agency’s supercomputing capabilities and to undertake systems-level research, development and demonstration activities related to aviation safety, environmental impact mitigation and the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).
NASA’s goal for the research is to find solutions for increasing the capacity, efficiency and flexibility of the U.S. national air space. At the same time, the research is aimed at reducing aircraft noise and emissions while designing new aeronautical vehicles that can support NextGen.
