The university implemented an HPC cluster with 1,792 processor cores using a single-sourced Dell solution consisting of Dell PowerEdge servers with Intel® Xeon® processors, DataDirect™ Networks storage, QLogic® TrueScale™ InfiniBand™ network, Platform Computing Platform Cluster Manager and Red Hat® Enterprise Linux®. Dell IT Consulting services provided on-site implementation.Benefits
• Ability to compete for $500 million in incentives and become a tier 1 university• 6-month time frame for acquiring HPC cluster
• Researchers have ready access to a high-powered computational system on their own campus
• 25 percent improvement in processing speed with Dell™ PowerEdge™ R410 servers
• 50 percent less rack space than cluster without PowerEdge R410 servers
• 10-fold increase in computational capacity
• Two full-time employees able to maintain 224-node cluster
