In August 2009, Dell commissioned Forrester® Consulting to evaluate the current state of storage and the perceptions and interest regarding new storage technologies, including unified fabric (UF) — the concept of using the same physical network or common network protocol for storage and application network traffic. A key goal of this study is to gauge the current level of interest in UF and associated products, including Internet SCSI (iSCSI) storage, which is a key-enabling technology for UF and storage area network/local area network (SAN/LAN) convergence.
