The open source LAMP application stack which consists of Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP is a commonly used, reliable platform for Web servers and provides Web services.
The Dell Scalable Enterprise Technology Center Labs team ran performance characterization and sizing tests on a Dell™ PowerEdge™ 1855 blade server running VMware® ESX Server™ 2.5.1 software to simulate a virtualized LAMP (Linux®, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) environment. Systems engineers and IT architects can use these test results to help determine the appropriate number of virtual machines (VMs) to host on ESX Server for a typical transactional LAMP-based workload as well as how to optimize the configuration for VMs and achieve effective workload and VM scaling.
