Virtual Clients

Traditional enterprise desktop environments are undergoing scrutiny because of growing costs for support and maintenance, compounded by the necessity for frequent security patches and software upgrades as well as the explosion of remote and mobile workers. Faced with these demands and today’s budget constraints, many organizations are exploring virtual client models. This approach helps simplify operations and get client assets under control through a fundamental change in perspective: instead of managing physical desktops and hardware devices in various locations, administrators enable access to data, settings, applications, operating systems and IT policies that are uniquely associated with each user.

The Dell™ Flexible Computing Solutions suite of products and services — including the Dell On-Demand Desktop Streaming™ (ODDS), Dedicated Remote Workstation (DRW), and Virtual Remote Desktop (VRD) solutions — is designed to simplify management by enabling a customized user experience with server-based control. The Dell VRD architecture, which leverages VMware® or Citrix® software, is applicable to the widest range of usage scenarios of the three solutions, and is particularly well suited to highly mobile workers who may use a variety of devices from different locations. This solution can address many key client management challenges, including helping to ease the impact of hardware refresh cycles, streamline image management, and ensure data security and regulatory compliance. Advances such as Teradici PC-over-IP technology, composite images, and client hypervisors, meanwhile, can help organizations deliver client desktops wherever and whenever users need it.

Dell Infrastructure Consulting Services offers end-to-end Dell Flexible Computing infrastructure with a single point of contact to facilitate the transition to virtual client desktops. By taking advantage of these services and the Dell Flexible Computing framework, organizations can provide end users with comprehensive functionality and seamless mobile access while simultaneously helping IT groups to centralize, streamline, and simplify client management and security.
