Sally Akers joined Dell in 1996 and became managing director of Healthcare Consulting in January 2008. Under Ms. Akers' leadership, Dell has expanded its consulting capabilities to include clinicians and technologists committed to the transformation of healthcare. Due to Ms. Akers’ leadership, Healthcare Consulting now has global presence with practices in North America, Europe, China and the Middle East.
Prior to becoming managing director, Ms. Akers held a variety of leadership roles within Dell Healthcare & Life Sciences and was tasked with the expansion and delivery of consulting and technology services. These services included strategic planning, business process redesign, change management, technology selection, and implementation and engagement leadership. The efforts of these teams resulted in Healthcare revenue growth from $100M to over $1B during this expansion of services.
Before joining Dell, Ms. Akers had extensive experience in healthcare, including clinical practice, management of health systems operations, business process reengineering, organizational restructuring, change management, care redesign and rapid assessment, and implementation of operational improvements. Ms. Akers has been responsible for the clinical, administrative and financial performance of numerous treatment programs across the U.S. with operating budgets from $10M–$50M.
As an advanced practice nursing professional, Ms. Akers has extensive knowledge of complex healthcare delivery systems including acute and ambulatory care settings. She has frontline experience providing clinical care to patients while guiding them through the administrative challenges inherent in our healthcare system. This experience has well prepared her for her leadership and consultative roles in healthcare.
Ms. Akers is a member of the American Nurses' Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She received her MSN, magna cum laude, from Indiana University. She received her BSN, magna cum laude, from Indiana State University where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing. |
