Lite-On: A Partnership for Proactive Responsibility
At Dell, our suppliers are our partners, and we hold them to the same social and environmental responsibility (SER) standards that we observe.
We ask our suppliers to implement sound SER principles in the following areas:
- Ethics
- Labor
- Environment
- Health and safety
- Management systems
Our work with Tier-1 supplier Lite-On demonstrates just how seriously we take this commitment. Through our partnership, Lite-On agreed to have a third party, CSR Asia, conduct an assessment of their internal SER process and recommend improvements. The study identified that Lite-On has taken the first steps to develop a sound SER system. They have the support from top management and have a commitment to continuously improve.
CSR Asia provided two recommendations for Lite-On. The first is to develop training for workers, staff and management to drive a consistent message on SER top down. The second is to build upon the foundation of implementing the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) and expand Lite-On's understanding of SER.
This collaboration illustrates the commitment from Dell and Lite-On to provide better working conditions in the supply chain. “Our long-term goal is to build a sustainable SER process that drives continuous improvement as well as builds internal capability with our suppliers,” said Dwight Boliek, vice president of Corp Supply Chain Management, Lite-On Technology Corporation.
Today, Lite-On goes beyond compliance and moves toward proactive responsibility, demonstrating that it honors Dell expectations that suppliers adhere to the EICC. Lite-On also works toward implementing an SER system that reaches into their supply chains.
