Database Comparison: PowerEdge R815 vs. Two HP ProLiant DL380 G7s
You can consolidate large numbers of production database servers onto a small number of physical systems by using multisocket servers with multicore processors along with the latest virtualization technologies.
In tests performed by Principled Technologies, the Dell™ PowerEdge™ R815 demonstrated significantly better virtualized database performance than a pair of HP™ ProLiant™ DL380 G7 servers with Intel® Xeon® Processor X5670s — with a lower price, better performance and lower power consumption.
Using the open-source DVD Store Version 2 benchmark, Principled Technologies measured the performance and power of the two servers, then used the list prices of the systems to develop a price metric. For testing, each server ran 48 virtual machines using Hyper-V™ and Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition with Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2.
