Unified Storage

Single Platform Scalability

Unified Storage is a term that describes the ability to manage both file- and block-level data. Block data is usually transported to and from Unified Storage systems via Fibre Channel or iSCSI SAN protocols while files are transferred via NFS (in Linux® environments) and CIFS (in Microsoft® environments) protocols.

Dell Compellent Storage Center, the newest addition to the Dell portfolio of storage solutions, features unified SAN/NAS solutions that extend the benefits of storage consolidation across the enterprise. Built on a unique Fluid Data™ technology, Dell™ Compellent™ Storage Center™ supports the continual adoption of new technologies as you grow. You can easily mix and match drive technologies and build a unified storage solution without ever worrying about a forklift upgrade.

Expand block-and-file capacity and performance in live production environments with the Dell EqualLogic™ FS7500 and Dell Scalable File System, the only scale-out unified storage architecture optimized for midsize and smaller EqualLogic storage deployments.

The PowerVault™ NX3500 is a unified storage solution for smaller scale deployments that provides integrated access to block and file data with built-in data protection features such as snapshots and replication. It's an excellent solution for customers who want to migrate from distributed file server environments to a consolidated file and database solution. The NX3500 is also ideal for user shares, Exchange and smaller virtualized environments that have increasing NFS storage requirements.

Data has become the fuel that drives business acceleration, making organizations today extremely reliant on data storage. And that makes the storage decision strategic, far-reaching and full of risk. Limited-point products, dead-end growth paths and bolt-on software applications create rigid boundaries around data storage.
