Help Protect Your Notebook PCs and Their Data
Failure to monitor and control access to confidential business data can have significant consequences. Even a single instance of data loss can result in financial loss, regulatory noncompliance, legal liability and negative publicity that can take years to repair. Dell System Track helps you locate lost or stolen systems and, most importantly, protect the corporate data that reside in these machines. Dell can also work with local law enforcement to help you beat the odds and recover stolen systems by:
- Monitoring connection status, locating systems and tracking physical location using Geolocation
- Protecting data and providing system security using Remote Data Deletion, System Lock and Emergency File Retrieval features
- Locating and help retrieving missing systems with Theft Recovery (not available at all locations)
Simplify Data Protection
Business travelers lose more than 12,000 notebook PCs* per week in U.S. airports alone and only 3 percent of lost or stolen notebook PCs are ever recovered.* How well can you account for your notebook PCs and the data they hold? Keeping track of all the remote PCs and making sure their data is protected is an increasingly difficult and time-consuming task for most IT departments. Dell System Track simplifies this process by using technology that is installed in the PC's BIOS and hard drive. This technology can be factory-installed for new systems or through a simple deployment process for existing systems. Ask your Dell representative for existing system requirements.
How Dell System Track Works
System Track links with a missing PC the next time it connects to the Internet and enables IT administrators to perform data and device security activities, including deletion of sensitive data, system lockdown and emergency retrieval of key files. If you report a stolen device to Dell, Dell can forensically mine the PC over the Internet using a variety of procedures including key captures, registry and file scanning, and Geolocation to help determine who has the system and what they’re doing with it. Dell will also work closely with local law enforcement to recover your computer (additional cost and not available in all areas).
Dell System Track Options
Depending on your protected systems and the service levels purchased, the following services are available as part of Dell System Track:
- System Identification/Connectivity — Connect with systems logged onto the Internet and collect basic hardware and software information — including generation of reports — in order to perform data protection activities.
- Geotechnology — Global Positioning System (GPS) or WiFi technology tracks PCs on an Internet map in current and historical locations within about 33 feet. GPS technology requires GPS receiver. WiFi triangulation depends on WiFi vendor coverage.
- Data and Device Security — Remotely retrieve emergency files (and delete data) on missing systems and produce an audit log of the deleted files to prove your compliance with government and corporate regulations.
- Theft Recovery — If your PC is stolen, Dell can help you protect your investment by working with local law enforcement to recover the stolen PC. Number of work hours performed depends on level of service. All work is performed within one year from successful logging of the theft report on the System Track portal.
