The Cray CX1-iWS solution does this by combining a fully featured Microsoft® Windows® 7 workstation with a 24-core Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series cluster running Windows HPC Server 2008 — all in a convenient deskside form factor that can be run without any special power or machine room infrastructure.
The workstation node features an NVIDIA® Quadro® graphics card that can support two high definition monitors for visualization. NVIDIA Quadro cards also feature multiple levels of graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration using NVIDIA’s CUDA™ environment.
The Cray CX1-iWS solution includes all the interconnectivity resources required to deliver these benefits to the workgroup as well as the individual power user, by becoming the hub for workgroup high performance computing.
