Infrastructure Management Components

Dell Advanced Infrastructure Manager (AIM)

Powering the Efficient Data Center
Comprehensive Management
Dell™ Advanced Infrastructure Manager (AIM), a key component of the Dell Virtual Integrated System, enables you to manage your networks, storage and servers — including server workloads — with a single tool, giving you the ability to react agilely to the changing needs of your data center.

With AIM, you can:
  • Combine new and existing servers, storage and network devices into a unified, flexible computing solution that dynamically allocates resources to meet application workload demand
  • Manage physical and virtual resources with a single solution
  • Move workloads seamlessly across hardware platforms for increased availability and scalability
  • Transform nonvirtual (physical) servers with virtualization-like functionality, including automated failover, dynamic load balancing and business continuity
  • Significantly decrease the time and personnel required to deploy hardware and to get applications up and running with a repeatable, scalable framework for hardware implementation
  • Integrate existing servers, storage and network devices into an AIM solution to extend the useful life of your existing investment

Broad Applicability

Dell AIM is valuable in a wide range of IT environments, including those that:

  • Are under pressure to reduce the time and personnel needed to deploy servers, networks and storage
  • Include both physical and virtual components
  • Have a mixture of different virtual platforms
  • Must balance varying workload, performance and availability needs Need to accelerate and more effectively manage the deployment of virtual machines

Superior Flexibility

Dell AIM is a flexible and powerful solution that provides a wide array of benefits. AIM's flexibility:

  • Offers choice and a standards-based solution — With AIM, you can combine new and existing servers, networks and storage devices from Dell and other vendors into a unified, nonproprietary computing solution.
  • Manages current and new infrastructure — You rarely create a data center infrastructure from scratch. With AIM, you can manage existing infrastructure and new hardware with a single solution.
  • Works across both physical and virtual environments — Many IT environments include a combination of physical and virtual workloads. With AIM, you can manage these different workloads as a unified infrastructure, seamlessly allocating servers, network devices and storage to either environment.
  • Supports multiple virtualization platforms simultaneously — AIM simultaneously manages virtualization technology from VMware®, Microsoft® (Hyper-V™) and Red Hat® (Enterprise Linux® with Xen®). With AIM, you can have the flexibility to select the right virtualization platform for the right workload.

Adaptable Delivery

You can get Dell AIM in two ways, both backed by service offerings that can support the way your IT department prefers to do business. With Dell AIM acquisition options, you can:

  • Get AIM as part of new hardware acquisitions. Our AIM business-ready configurations are pretested and certified to simplify procurement and speed up deployment. You can also use our business-ready configurations as a starting point for creating your own custom configurations.
  • Get AIM as a software-only solution, either to manage your existing hardware, or to integrate new hardware with your existing hardware into an AIM solution.

Service offerings include:

  • Dell ProConsult™ services to assist with the sizing, scoping and deployment of new solutions
  • Dell ProSupport™ services for ongoing management of certified Dell platforms
