DreamHost expands cloud and storage services with Dell OpenStack Cloud
DreamHost, a California based Web hosting company, needed a flexible, open source cloud platform for its public cloud computing product. It also needed to offer block storage based on Ceph ― a DreamHost developed open source storage solution ― to its cloud computing customers. To address these needs, DreamHost joined the OpenStack™ project and committed engineering resources focused on integrating Ceph with OpenStack. DreamHost then required a technology partner that was as committed to OpenStack as it was.
Dell, one of the few pioneer partners in the OpenStack community, was the only hardware solutions provider to publicly support OpenStack at its announcement. To help customers streamline their journey to the cloud, Dell released the Dell™ OpenStack Cloud Solution, featuring:
- Dell PowerEdge™ C servers
- Dell Crowbar software
- OpenStack open source cloud software
- Services from Dell and Rackspace Cloud Builders
By deploying the Dell OpenStack Cloud Solution and partnering with Dell, DreamHost was able to:
- Leverage Dell’s OpenStack expertise in reference architecture and deployment framework
- Save four to six months of software development work
- Leverage proven platforms for cloud and scale-out data centers
- Realize the business advantages of leasing with Dell Financial Services
