Data Center Energy Efficiency With Intel Power Management Technologies

Data centers strained by growing demand can benefit greatly from solutions that avoid the need for expensive construction or additional power circuits and cooling units. This evaluation of Intel® Intelligent Power Node Manager and Intel® Data Center Manager, which monitor, measure and cap server power consumption across the data center, shows that the key is better, more detailed information about actual power consumption.

Read about the test environment — based on a configuration of four Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series servers modeling a virtualized IT environment — and the approaches taken by Intel IT evaluators to learn how the combination of monitoring and capping is investigated for its efficacy in capacity management, power savings and continuity during outages.

In the final analysis, the two technologies increased computing capacity, saved electricity and improved business continuity. Additional potential benefits are also identified relating to thermal monitoring and better uninterruptible power supply (UPS) utilization.
