Dell Versus Sun Servers: PowerEdge R910 and R810 Comparison

To compare the processor performance of the Dell™ PowerEdge™ R910 and R810 servers to the Sun™ SPARC Enterprise M4000 and T5240 servers, Principled Technologies, Inc. used the SPECfp_rate_base2006 test of the industry-standard SPEC CPU2006 benchmark suite.

The Dell PowerEdge R910 server outperformed the Sun SPARC servers by 142.4 percent and 116.9 percent, and the Dell PowerEdge R810 outperformed the Sun SPARC servers by 147.7 percent and 121.8 percent. The results are as follows:

  • The Dell PowerEdge R910 and R810 servers achieved SPECfp_rate_base2006 scores of 269 and 275 respectively.
  • The Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and T5240 achieved a SPECfp_rate_base2006 score of 111 and 124 respectively.
