Managing Dell PowerEdge C Servers in Hyperscale Environments

In hyperscale environments such as compute farms supporting ecommerce applications, one-to-many system management tools are essential for system monitoring and management. Dell™ PowerEdge™ C servers, which are designed for such settings, ship with a basic system management controller and the capability to support a whole range of tools made for compute farms.

One of the three party tools — Nagios®, Zenoss® Core or the open-source Ganglia — is typically used for monitoring system health and uptime. For deploying BIOS and firmware, standard Dell update packages are used. When it comes to managing drivers and software updates, options include rolling out a single software image and using custom scripts. For provisioning outside of the network, Platform Computing's Platform Cluster Manager or Clustercorp Rocks+ is recommended.

This paper includes a table that compares the different system management tools for all Dell PowerEdge servers.
