Embedded Server Management

Introduction to iDRAC6

The Integrated Dell™ Remote Access Controller 6 (iDRAC6) is our sixth-generation remote access controller. It helps make server administrators more productive and reduce the total cost of ownership of Dell servers. The iDRAC6 achieves these goals with several key features to increase overall server availability:
  • Alerts and filters to notify administrators of server warnings or failures
  • Remote server management
  • Power monitoring and budgeting features
  • Virtual management tools including virtual console, virtual media, remote file share and virtual flash
  • Security-encrypted "as if you were there" management experience
The iDRAC6 operates independently from the server's CPU and operating system. This means it functions even if the server is powered off, no operating system is installed, or the operating system is crashed or otherwise inoperable. This makes iDRAC6 a mainstay in remotely managed data centers and distant or remote offices where remote desktop applications (such as Remote Desktop Protocol) are not sufficient due to their dependency on a running operating system.
