A smart approach to application intelligence

Web-based applications have become increasingly important in enterprise environments, offering the promise of enhanced collaboration, increased productivity, and reduced costs by connecting people and exchanging information in new and efficient ways. Yet many organizations are unaware of the risks that come with these benefits. Social networking and streaming media threaten to drain bandwidth and productivity while competing with mission-critical applications for resources and time. Although software as a service (SaaS) and service-oriented architecture (SOA) enable new ways of conducting business, they can also introduce new threats, just as personal Web-based email, instant messaging (IM) and FTP can create new conduits for leakage of sensitive data.

The ubiquity and complexity of Web applications require IT departments to take a smart approach to these challenges. The SonicWALL® E-Class Network Security Appliance (NSA) Series can deliver comprehensive intelligence and control in Dell™ hardware–based environments — enabling organizations to gain the benefits of these applications while still minimizing risk. These organizations can take advantage of SonicWALL Application Intelligence capabilities to help administrators establish and maintain application identification, control, visualization, bandwidth management and threat protection.

Included in the NSA E8500 appliance and available as a part of the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite (CGSS), SonicWALL Application Intelligence extends the protection of SonicWALL appliances beyond blocking traditional network threats to the management and control of data and applications that pass through the appliance. By employing SonicWALL E-Class NSA security appliances such as the NSA E8500, IT departments can focus on ways to control these applications while still empowering end users to make effective use of them — all without compromising performance.
