A Success Story: Graphic Packaging International

During merger and acquisition activities, Dell Services helped Graphic Packaging International, an industry-leading packaging company, integrate applications and IT infrastructure, and consolidate multiple data centers.

The Challenge
The extensive merger and acquisition (M&A) activities that built GPI into an industry leader posed monumental challenges in reconciling and standardizing back-office systems. Firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers, Internet access and DMZs all had to be consolidated. GPI knew that without careful planning, well-honed expertise, and focused execution, these technology projects could easily fail, which would put business continuity at risk, cut into the bottom line, and jeopardize customer service.

GPI turned to Dell for assistance so that it could continue to focus on its core business and on serving its clients, while outsourcing non-core functions to a trusted IT provider.

Our team established full IT infrastructure capabilities, a world-class, multiclient data center facility with 24x7x365 manned physical security, redundant network connectivity and power, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and back-up power generation.

To enable GPI to focus on its core business, Dell Services now provides a wide range of ongoing support, including backup and restore services, database administration, disaster recovery, email support, information security, middleware support, network support, server administration, desktop and service desk support, and service management.

Given the criticality of keeping the GPI business running profitably, we focused on minimizing negative impact to business operations. Working together with the GPI team, we migrated infrastructure systems and applications successfully the first time during every "go-live" event.
