The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) received $50 million for major enhancements to its information technology security. HHS has been working for some time to thwart identity thieves, hackers and other unauthorized users from accessing its computer networks. The stimulus money will further those efforts. Plans call for a major expansion of the HHS Computer Security Incident Response Center in Atlanta to provide around-the-clock monitoring for computer viruses, worms and other security threats.

The department aimed to have most of its security contracts awarded by September 30, 2009, but has acknowledged that the potential for delays “is considerable.” To learn more, click here.
