Data Center Operating Temperature: What Does Dell Recommend?

    4 out of
 5

There is lots of hype these days about operating your data center at higher temperatures. You may be asking several questions regarding this topic: How much does it save and do the savings outweigh the risks? What temperature should I target? This paper addresses the theory that although an increase in IT inlet temperatures enables energy savings in the cooling process, it might be that the increased fan power associated with higher IT inlet temperatures might negate the facility efficiency advantages. What we found confirmed the hypothesis: there is a “sweet spot” operating temperature when you are using mechanical means to cool your data center.

Rack Infrastructure Effects on Thermal Performance of a Server

    2.3333 out of
 5

Focus: Quantify and analyze impact of Cable Management Arm and doors of IT equipment rack on airflow through a 1U server. Results: Rack doors and CMA were each in the three percent range and did not have a concerning impact on the performance of the server.

  6. Universal Application and Benefits of Air Containment

Universal Application and Benefits of Air Containment

    18 Dec 2009

Implement containment to operate more efficiently and at higher densities with the ability to predictably deploy IT hardware with less thermal risk.

  7. server-response-to-pressure-12182009.pdf

IT Equipment Response to External Pressure

    18 Dec 2009

The integration of IT equipment and facility cooling solutions can produce both unexpected and undesirable results. Containment solutions are highly recommended.

  8. Addressing System Memory Challenges: Load-Reduced DIMMs

Addressing System Memory Challenges: Load-Reduced DIMMs

    27 Oct 2009

The next evolution of the memory interface — load-reduced dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs) — could provide better platform scalability for servers and workstations through the life of the Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) and DDR4 native interfaces.

  9. Solid State Drives Moving Into the Mainstream

Business Client PCs: Solid-State Drives Moving Into the Mainstream

    21 Oct 2009

    1.0909 out of
