Former Labor Secretary Alexis Herman to Advise Dell on Diversity

Dell today announced that former U.S. Labor Secretary Alexis Herman has become an advisor on the company’s diversity and employment programs.

“We are honored to have Ms. Herman as an external advisor,” said Gil Casellas, vice president of corporate responsibility for Dell. “Her knowledge and experience in guiding organizations, as well as her work with the department of labor distinguishes her as a leader in designing and developing strong diverse workforces and promoting equal opportunity. This is a very important part of meeting our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and going forward, we will continually do more to ensure we are creating one of the best places to work in the world.”

Ms. Herman comes to this external advisor role with a wealth of expertise and talent. She was the youngest director of the women's bureau in the history of the labor department during the Carter administration and in 1997 was sworn in as America’s 23rd Secretary of Labor and the first African American ever to lead the United States Department of Labor. Currently, Ms. Herman serves as chair and chief executive officer of New Ventures, LLC. She has continued to lend her expertise and talent to corporate enterprises and nonprofit organizations.

“Dell is committed to diversity as a business imperative, opportunity and responsibility. Dell’s commitment to diversity and inclusion gives it access to the broadest possible talent pool, which is necessary to the company’s continued growth and success,” said Mr. Casellas.
