Challenge
To streamline operations and minimize IT complexity, Mazda needed a tiered storage architecture to support the virtualization of key applications and databases by accelerating performance across its 10Gb Ethernet network.
Solution
Mazda deployed a Dell™ Compellent Storage Center SAN with Dell Fluid Data™ technology to set up three tiers of storage, plus four Dell PowerEdge™ R710 servers to power virtual machines. Dell Compellent storage simplified administration, increased network performance and allowed virtualization of key infrastructure assets.
Benefits
• Performance gains from 80 to 400 percent as a result of storage virtualization
• Reduces full backups from 16 hours to 6 hours
• Takes a complete system snapshot — including databases — in 30 seconds
• Reduces window for nightly batch jobs by about 200 percent
• Cuts annual spending for physical servers by 60 percent
