Mercury and Its Safe Disposal
Mercury is a chemical element originating in deposits in the earth's crust. It has traditionally been used to make products like thermometers, switches and some light bulbs, and exposure to it is associated with health concerns. Learn more about mercury >
We are actively working to reduce our use of mercury, and we are committed to expanding our portfolio of mercury-free LED-based products. For example, in 2010 we completed the transition of all our new laptop displays to LED illumination, a mercury-free lighting source.
However, a number of Dell products do still contain mercury. It is found inside the fluorescent bulbs of our non-LED flat-panel monitors and older-generation laptops, and inside the high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps of our non-LED projectors.
These items must be disposed of according to local, state or federal laws. For more information, visit Vermont's Mercury Education and Reduction Campaign Web site. Please note that all Dell recycling programs comply with all applicable laws concerning safe mercury disposal. Learn more about recycling your Dell system >
