Create Green Jobs — Recycle With Dell and Goodwill

Help create Green jobs

Recycling Responsibly = More Jobs!

When you recycle your computers properly with the Reconnect program — a joint recycling venture of Dell and Goodwill — you not only help the planet, but you also help create green jobs. Together with our customers, the Reconnect program is putting both technology and jobs back into the hands of those who need them most. Since its start in 2004, Reconnect has diverted more than 200 million pounds of e-waste from landfills and created more than 250 green jobs.

What Is a Green Job?

According to the United Nations Environment Program, a green job is "work in agricultural, manufacturing, research and development (R and D), administrative and service activities that contribute substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality." Specifically, but not exclusively, a green job includes jobs that:

  • Help protect ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Reduce energy, materials and water consumption through high-efficiency strategies
  • Decarbonize the economy
  • Minimize or altogether avoid generation of all forms of waste and pollution

The green jobs created by Dell and Goodwill help recycle and repurpose electronics that could otherwise end up in landfills, or worse, as e-waste in developing nations if not disposed of properly. In addition, the revenue generated from recycled computer equipment supports Goodwill’s job training programs, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face employment challenges.

Goodwill is a leader in the reduce, reuse and recycle model. The Reconnect partnership teaches all of us the importance of expanding the life cycle of unwanted electronics through environmentally responsible computer disposal. At the same time, it creates jobs and job training at entry-level and green-collar jobs for people in need of work.

How to Participate in Reconnect

Participating in Reconnect is easy. After you remove all personal data from your computer, simply drop off your unwanted equipment at one of 2,600 participating Goodwill Reconnect locations across the USA. By participating, you will receive a tax receipt, regardless of the brand and condition of the equipment. Your unwanted equipment will be recycled responsibly by Dell Environmental Partners, and you will feel great knowing your donation helped those in need.
