Empowering Our Customers and Friends to Make a Difference

Giving Back
Climate change is among the biggest environmental issues this century. While most agree that we must do something, the challenge can appear to be too great, too complicated for any one of us to make a difference... until now.
Plant a Tree for Me
In January 2007, Dell, The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org announced a joint, global initiative to offset the carbon dioxide produced when customers power their computer systems. Called "Plant a Tree for Me," the program allows customers to make a donation that will be used by the 2 nonprofit organizations, The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org, to plant trees in sustainably managed forests. Dell's commitment marked the first time a major corporation has given its customers a way to offset the emissions associated with the electricity used by their computers.
Through the program, a customer donation of $2 for a laptop and $6 for a desktop computer will offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions equivalent to powering the average computer for 3 years. Dell will remit 100% of the donations received from the "Plant a Tree for Me" program to The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org to be used to plant trees.
The Conservation Fund is the nation’s top-rated environmental nonprofit organization by the American Institute of Philanthropy, and its climate change programs, including Go ZeroSM, have resulted in the planting of more than 9,000,000 trees that will trap more than 13,500,000 million tons of CO2. Since 1985, the Fund and its partners, dedicated to tangible, on-the-ground results, have protected more than 5,500,000 acres of our nation’s outdoor heritage — our wildlife habitat and watersheds, working landscapes, and community open space.
Plant a Forest for Me
In September 2007, Dell announced “Plant a Forest for Me,” a program that enables organizations worldwide to share best practices and, as partners, facilitate the planting of trees in sustainably managed reforestation projects. Partners include AMD, ABN AMRO, Ask.com, CGI, Staples, Salesforce.com, Targus and WellPoint. To participate, contact your Dell Sales Representative or mailto:plantaforest@dell.com.
