Energy Efficiency

Core Fundamentals

At Dell, our approach to Green IT is simple:

Greener, Scalable, Upgradable Architecture: Simplifying IT through integrated systems management and improved utilization results from consolidation, virtualization, equipment refresh/upgrade, and P&C equipment and operational refresh. We use modular design to make our products easy to upgrade and service — and, when necessary, to be safely and efficiently recycled.

Efficient Configuration and Delivery: In addition to designing next-generation energy-efficient technology, we’ve streamlined our transportation network to reduce transit times and minimize freight. As a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay partner, Dell favors business with carriers that demonstrate a commitment to reducing their GHG impacts. By minimizing packaging material wherever feasible, we reduce waste and transportation impacts.

Engagement and Empowerment: Even the most efficient technology uses electricity, so we partner with customers to help them offset the carbon impacts associated with product use. Dell’s “Plant a Tree for Me”  and "Plant a Forest for Me" programs are simple and tangible ways for customers to give back to the planet. Direct2Dell, IdeaStorm and online forums help us connect with customers and employees. Dell provides tools such as energy calculators and the Dell Greenprint Advisor to help customers make decisions that are best for their organization’s green objectives. Regular, transparent interaction with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), investors and other stakeholders provides feedback critical to the development of effective sustainability policy.

Product Recovery and Recycling: We’re helping organizational customers responsibly and securely manage the retirement of used and unwanted IT equipment through an extensive suite of product recovery and recycling services. During this process, we look to extend the life of our systems through upgrading and donation programs. We have developed a global recovery and recycling supply chain on six continents to recycle the parts and materials we collect. Learn more about Asset Recovery Services.
