Dell’s Jamila Cowan Makes a Positive Difference in the Community through the Fame Foundation

We’ve all heard the expression, "walk a mile in my shoes." It’s often used to respond to someone who may not understand what you’ve been through. Hearing the expression, it’s easy to take the simple necessity of shoes for granted. Not for Dell’s Jamila Cowan.

For the last four years, Jamila has dedicated her time to the Fame Foundation and its signature project, "I Got Shoes, You Got Shoes." Focused on cultural, educational and technological areas, Fame’s mission is to provide programs and services to support the needs of the local community in Atlanta, Georgia.

The "I Got Shoes, You Got Shoes" program helps outfit more than 1,000 elementary-aged school children with a new pair of shoes and socks each year. As a mother herself, Jamila’s heart goes out to those parents who cannot afford to provide for their children. At the same time, it brings her joy to see the excitement in the eyes of the children as they arrive at the program — each eager to exchange their outgrown shoes for a comfortable pair.

Jamila is passionate about helping others. As a Fame board member, she remains active in several other programs sponsored by Fame. She’s participated in the two-day "It’s a Journey" cancer walk, and this year, she’s proud to be walking in honor of her mother’s one-year anniversary of being cancer-free. Jamila also gives back to the community by volunteering at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Why does she give her time to the community? She says, “I am compelled to volunteer and contribute to making this world a better place. I have been blessed with so many gifts and talents, and volunteerism and service are my opportunities to share them to help others.”

She continues, “I am extremely grateful for my career and a company that supports and encourages my efforts to make a difference in the communities we live in.”

Jamila’s story helps us understand that although we lead busy lives, it remains our responsibility to contribute to our communities and help others.

Jamila, Dell applauds you and the work you do!
