Catalyst
Clear and Present Opportunities

In the recent IT Economic Impact Study undertaken by CIO magazine, hundreds of IT leaders across a broad range of organizations were asked where they plan to spend their money. Mobile budgets clearly are seeing a boost, as are projects and solutions that contribute directly to increases in productivity and efficiency.

Long gone are the days when IT could explore new projects that may deliver value. Today’s IT spending must be tied to real business outcomes, no matter what size business you have.

Consider the work done at Brazil’s Freeddom Technology. Many companies see great potential benefit from enabling consumers to make routine payments from their mobile phones. At Freeddom, this dream is a reality. The São Paolo based company leveraged a pure Dell infrastructure to create private-label card payment systems for companies and retailers that want branded cards, but don’t want the expense and complexity of developing their own (see page 12).

Efficiency reigns supreme at Newport City Homes in Newport, Wales, thanks to Dell servers and a unified communications solution deployed with help from Dell consultants. The IT deployment, according to Newport executives, was nothing short of a textbook success — delivered four months ahead of schedule. Newport, a large-scale landlord, can now direct its field agents to respond to customer calls in under a minute and make more informed decisions with better information downloaded from Microsoft® applications (see page 20).

Looking for an IT support partner but struggling with what questions to ask in the partner-vetting process?
